Radio Equipment Directive
The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) is a European Union (EU) directive that sets out the safety, health, and environmental requirements for radio equipment. The directive applies to a wide range of radio equipment, including consumer electronics, industrial and professional equipment, and telecommunications equipment.
RED
The RED sets out the requirements for radio equipment in terms of its electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and its ability to operate without causing harmful interference to other equipment. The directive also specifies the requirements for the protection of the general public and the environment from the potential harmful effects of radio equipment.
In addition to setting out the requirements for radio equipment, the RED also sets out the responsibilities of manufacturers, importers, and distributors of radio equipment. This includes the requirement to provide technical documentation, to affix the CE marking, and to ensure that the equipment meets the relevant requirements of the directive.
The RED replaces the former R&TTE Directive (1999/5/EC) and came into effect on June 13th, 2016. The directive aims to ensure that radio equipment is safe and reliable, and to promote the free movement of radio equipment within the EU. By adhering to the requirements of the RED, manufacturers and users can ensure that their radio equipment is safe, reliable, and complies with the relevant EU regulations.
